Stuff reports the director of a Lower Hutt engineering firm says says trade training graduates are entering the workforce without the necessary skills to start work.

Paul Jessup, director of Metco Engineering, says students are being taught the same things he was taught 30 years ago and required extensive training on how to used digitised machinery.

He said institutions running New Zealand Qualifications Authority accredited courses might struggle to buy state-of-the-art machinery and suggested should there should be more engagement with the industry.
