Stuff reports an Auckland man who poisoned work colleagues with a marijuana-laced cake has been sentenced to 22 months in prison.

Eight of Graham Jones's colleagues were admitted to hospital as a result of eating the contaminated cake.

In delivering the sentence, the first of its kind in New Zealand, Judge Nevin Dawson noted the offending had a very high potential for harm because it happened in a workplace that uses heavy machinery and equipment.

He said a sentence needed to be imposed that would get a message across that such behaviour was unacceptable.
