Radio New Zealand reports nurses will strike on Thursday (12 July) after rejecting the latest pay offer from their district health board employers.

Industrial Services manager Cee Payne said nurses didn't take the decision to strike lightly and more than 30,000 New Zealand Nurses Organisation (NZNO) members are involved.

Acting Prime Minister Winston Peters said the government was very disappointed by the nurses' decision as the pay offer was the "highest pay increase by far for nurses in 14 long years".
