Stuff reports 60 Customs staff have been investigated over allegedly being involved in fraud or misconduct over the past five years, and 40 have faced disciplinary action.

Customs acting deputy controller of operations Paul Campbell said none of the employees investigated in that time period were criminally charged with an offence.

Customs employs over 1200 people and carries out police checks in its recruitment process.

Campbell said the organisation was working with unions to implement random drug testing for staff working in safety sensitive roles.
